Karli lives with his parents in an old hotel in need of renovation, where not even the internet works. The days feel long, and the hotel renovations are getting on 12-year-old Karli’s nerves. Everything changes, however, when the boy tries to take the elevator to the top floor of the hotel.

The lights flicker strangely, and the elevator gets stuck. The doors open, and Karli steps into an elegantly decorated setting that’s unlike any other floor in the hotel. Karli, dressed in a hoodie, soon realizes that the elevator acted as a time machine. The hotel is decorated with swastika flags, and the people are dressed in old-fashioned clothes. Hannah, who is the same age as Karli, notices the curious boy and wonders about his strange clothes. Karli explains that he has come from the future. Soon they realize that only Karli can travel through time. The children befriend Georg, the hotel’s shoe-shine boy. Soon, a large wad of cash is found on Georg, and he is accused of stealing it. Karli and Hannah must figure out who the real thief is and why no one is coming forward to claim the money.
