43rd Oulu International Children's and Youth Film Festival presents
4th Oulu Children's Film Forum
Tue 19th of November
The 43. Oulu International Children's and Youth Film Festival will organise the 4th Children's Film Forum on Tuesday 19th of November 2024. It will be a unique international event for film professionals and public audiences in Finland, addressing the state and future of both feature and short films for children and young people.
The morning public section (10:30–11:40am) is held in Finnish and the theme is “From Book to Film”. The event will delve into the challenges and wonders of adaptation, looking at scripts as well as film environments and time frames. The big question is: should we modernise the classics or stay true to the original story? The event will also focus on a particular children's film, which has been a central part of Finnish cinema culture in the 21st century. In this context, the importance of children's films in media education and the role of gaming in education will be discussed. Speakers include Saara Cantell, Outi Hupaniittu, Janne Isokääntä, Marjo Kovanen and Heta Mulari.
The afternoon section (1–4pm), which is aimed at film professionals and students, is held in English. This section will look at filmmaking from the perspective of independent film production: how can a film achieve international success without national funding? It will also explore the use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking and its potential for the future. Furthermore, The afternoon section will feature some new Nordic specialities. Speakers include Mervi Enqvist, Gunnbjörg Gunnarsdottir, Ted Kjellsson, Markéta Pášmová, Sidse Jeppesen, Magdalena Nieć, Kaisa Rastimo and Outi Rousu.
