43rd Oulu International Children's and Youth Film Festival
The 43rd International Children's and Youth Film Festival will take place from 16 to 24 November 2024. 
It is an independent festival. The Festival is organized by the Oulu Film Centre
Film submissions and preview copies must be received by 8 August 2024 at the latest.

The International Children's and Youth Film Festival is aimed at both children and adults. The goal of the Festival is to showcase new high-quality international film production for children and young people, and to increase the interest of Finnish distributors and broadcasters in children’s films. The Festival presents the Children's Film Competition Award in the Children’s Film Competition, the Global Future Award in the Youth Film Competition, the Look at Me... Award in the Finnish Competition and the ECFA Awards for the best European children’s feature and short film.
Competitions
Children's Film Competition

Children's Film Competition Award A children's jury consisting of schoolchildren from Oulu will present the Children's Film Competition Award donated by Oulun Energia to the director of the best film of the Children's Film Competition.

Youth Film Competition

Global Future Prize The Oulu 4H Association awards the Global Future Prize for the best film in the Youth Film Competition.

Finnish Competition

Look at Me... Award The Church Media Foundation awards a prize of 1,500 euros to the director of a domestic long or short film. The aim of the award is to support Finnish films for children and young people and to encourage filmmakers to reflect on Christian responsibility and values.

ECFA-Award

The European Children's Film Association's award for the best European feature film in the Children's Film Competition is awarded by an international jury.

ECFA-Short Film Award

The European Children's Film Association's award for the best film in the Short Film Competition is awarded by an international jury.

Competition regulations
Running time requirements
  • Children’s Film Competion, ECFA Feature Film Competition and Youth Film Competition: minimum running time 60 minutes.

  • Finnish Competition: no running time restriction.

  • ECFA Short Film Competition: maximum running time 30 minutes.

Regulations
  • Children's Film Competition of the Festival is limited to 15 films.

  • Eligible formats are HD/broadcast-quality video file (ProRes, DNxHD/R etc.) or blu-ray (disc or disc image). DCPs, DVDs and film prints (35 or 16 mm) are also accepted.

  • No fees will be paid for festival screenings.

  • Films in competition will be screened max. three times, plus one awards screening if the film wins (except Children’s Film Competition winner which gets two awards screenings).

  • All submissions and preview copies must arrive by 8 August 2024.

  • The entry form must be accompanied by stills, posters, a link to the film trailer and other press materials, as well as a short biography, a filmography and a photo of the film director.

  • The films for the Festival are selected by the Festival management.

  • Screening copies must arrive in Oulu by 20 September 2024.

  • The sender is responsible for the shipping costs of the screening copy to Oulu. All screening copies should remain with Festival organization until the Festival closes. The physical screening copy will be returned at the Festival organizers' cost within three weeks after the Festival if not agreed otherwise.
