What happens when girls grow into women? This documentary follows six girls aged 9–12 over the course of one school year. Emilly, Thaila, Alana, Ana Julia, Isadora, and Taiane share their thoughts on puberty and reflect on the changes that might occur in their bodies and interests in the future. They encounter new dreams of adulthood, crushes, and the suspenseful anticipation of their first periods. The girls share their conflicting feelings about puberty: some can’t wait for the independence that comes with growing up, while others fear that adolescence marks the end of childhood. As they take their first steps toward womanhood, the girls compare their own development to that of their mothers and sisters. The journey to womanhood is unique and full of surprises.
