Mario is in a tough spot—school isn’t going well, and his frustrated father has high expectations for the son, who is drawn to drawing, music, and girls. Mario still can’t decide what he wants to do with his future. So his father sends 16-year-old Mario to spend the summer in the mountainous countryside of Ticino as a farmhand. At first, the hard physical labor and early mornings feel like a punishment, but the mountain village, bathed in sunshine, and its people gradually win Mario over. When the farmer’s daughter, Prisca, returns home, a new path opens up in Mario’s world.
