NEUROTYPES

Aida has always been different from the others. Her mother noticed this even when the girl was a baby: loud noises and crowds of people stressed Aida out and always made her cry. Early in her childhood Aida learned that she was on the autism spectrum, and since then she has strived to understand herself as best she could.

Passionate fifth-grader Aida loves to learn, build all manner of things and examine different types of rocks. She is creative, talented, and ambitious, but the rest of the world doesn't understand that she needs a certain type of support to truly flourish. Her mother has always supported Aida, but often neurodivergent people are unable to be themselves outside of home. Teachers, doctors, and society don't know how to accept neurodivergent children or adults. In a society where neurotypicals form the majority, neurodivergent people must force themselves into a mold which is impossible to fit.

Aida doesn't want to force herself into a mold. She doesn't want to lose her opportunities to learn in a safe school, and she doesn't want to tire herself out because of society's impossible norms. In order to change society, Aida decides to fight against misconceptions and demand change from the Finnish decision-makers. However, Aida can't change the world alone: she needs other passionate, neurodivergent people around her to carry the message with her. Will Aida succeed in changing the world's perceptions of her and thousands of other people, or is there really no room for different brains in Finland?
