Lidia, a student, works part-time as a babysitter. Toivo is a lively and energetic boy, and the news that Lidia is moving abroad comes as a shock to him. Toivo shows up unexpectedly at Lidia’s door, so Lidia has to take him back home. When Toivo runs off into the woods halfway there, their game of Marco Polo begins, during which both are forced to confront their feelings as they stand on the threshold of a new phase in their lives.

Elsa is an adopted teenage girl of Chinese descent who goes with her adoptive mother to celebrate the Chinese New Year. However, Elsa feels caught between Finnish and Chinese cultures, and her mother and her friends don’t seem to fully understand Elsa’s situation or that of other adopted children.
