The perky Ida reluctantly moves to a new town with her mother. Her friends stayed behind, and the atmosphere at the new school is unpleasant: the students make fun of each other, and the strict headmaster loves rules a little too much. There's also a mysterious thief on the loose, who's after all that's shiny. As a new student, Ida is immediately a suspect. Things change when a new teacher introduces the class to magical animals that can talk and are man's best friends. Ida gets Rabbat the fox, and the twosome get into all sorts of mischief while searching for the thief.
